Tennis champion Boris Becker is behind bars tonight after being jailed for two and a half years
From Grand Slams to the Slammer. Tennis champion Boris Becker is behind bars tonight after being jailed for two and a half years. Found guilty of breaking the rules of his bankruptcy.
Boris Becker's life changed on court one at Wimbledon, so it's fitting that his tie had the British tournament purple and green colors as a very different court were about to change his life again.
Are you confident, Boris?
The 54-year-old was found guilty earlier this month of breaching the insolvency act, accused of hiding millions of dollars worth of assets, including his Wimbledon trophies, to avoid paying his massive debts. The sentencing judge said you've lost your career and reputation, all of your property. While I accept the humiliation you felt as a result of these proceedings, you've shown no humility. It's a stunning fall from grace for a man who leaped onto the world stage in 1985 at just 17 winning Wimbledon, the first unseeded singles player to do so. He would collect six Grand Slam trophies in all, including two Australian Opens. He was known in more recent years as the coach of Novak, Djokovic, and commentator. The court heard he earned more than $65 million as a player, yet incredibly racked up debts of almost 90 million. But he blamed it on two expensive divorces and a lavish lifestyle.
