Elon Musk first offered to buy Twitter and today he has completed the acquisition of the microblogging Site
After heaps of back and forth and even line of the deal, Elon Musk has finally bought Twitter. He's completed his 44 billion U. S. Dollar acquisition, and as a first move, he has fired some of the top executives of the company. Musk accused the leaders of misleading him about the number of spam accounts he has terminated. Twitter chief Executive Parag Arrival. Chief Financial Officer Ned Siegel and Legal Affairs and Policy Chief Vidya Gade. She took the top decision of banning Donald Trump from Twitter. Reports say right after the signing, Aguila, and Siegel were in fact escorted out of the Twitter headquarters. Mosque and his team only had till today to finalize the deal. Even before the official announcement, the mosque had already declared its acquisition of the microblogging site. It was a heartfelt message for his Twitter advertisers, he said. The reason I acquired Twitter is that it's important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square. He goes on to say he did not buy Twitter to make more money but to help humanity. He also called for a warm and welcoming platform for all, but not a free for all hellscape.
Musk reiterated that not everything will be allowed on the platform. Some content could in fact face consequences. These comments are just an extension of what he has been saying all along. A special focus will be on deceit spam bots on the website. Musk wants to change many aspects of the social media platform, but how they will translate in real life remains to be seen. Just two days ago, the billionaire sent Twitterati into a frenzy when he posted a video of himself walking into the Twitter headquarters carrying a sink and he captioned it entering the Twitter headquarters. Let that sink in and know the theatrics did not end there. Musk also changed his Twitter bio to read chief Twitter. If these weren't enough, he has now listed his location as the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco. It was full of twists and at one point had even sent doubts over whether the deal would even go through. It all began on 4 April when Musk disclosed that he had picked up a nine 2% stake in the company, making him its largest shareholder. For more on this story, we are joined by our correspondent Susan Tehrani from New York.
Susan so much has been said about what an Elon Musk-owned Twitter is likely to look like. And while a lot of those questions remain unanswered at this point, he's already fired from the top executives, including the CEO, and there are already fears that there could be mass layoffs. What more do we know at this point? And of course, there's also a lot of speculation about how it's only a matter of time before Donald Trump is allowed to return to Twitter.
It's extremely bizarre at the amount of fear that is circulating among some users that, God forbid, Donald Trump might be allowed back on Twitter, considering the fact that there are dictators of the world freely tweeting day in and day out on that platform. So just some food for thought to take that into consideration. But absolutely the future of Twitter right now is under question as to how Elon Musk plans to revamp this social media platform. He's said that he wants less content moderation. On the one hand, however, it's going to be very tricky considering the fact that many advertisers are weary of how the Tesla CEO will go about doing this. He's already said that it's not going to be a hellscape for all and that he doesn't mean that it's going to really be a platform where everyone can say whatever they want without any moderation. So we already see that he's walking a flying line because in order for Twitter to operate, it will need to have a viable business model, and Elon Musk understands that. So we'll have to wait and see how he plans to move forward. But for the most part, it's been received pretty well from one side, you could say, on both sides of the extremes.
What is it going to be? I guess nobody knows, which is why you have these constant comparisons being drawn between Elon Musk and the former US president Donald Trump, who may well be back on this platform very, very soon with Elon Musk now completing this acquisition. Thanks so much, Susan, for sharing all those details with us.
