A former US Top Gun pilot living in Orange in our Central West is facing extradition to America over fears he was working for the Chinese Air Force. The man ran a joy flight business in Tasmania before moving to China.

His name is Daniel Dugan, a former US Marine Corps pilot, and right now he's locked up in, of all places, BathAs Jail. The FBI wants to extradite him to the US. The allegation he was helping to train Chinese fighter pilots. Duggan left the US Air Force in 2002. He worked as a harrier pilot with the Spanish navy. He went on to set up Top Gun Tasmania, where tourists feeling the need for speed were given serious airtime in old military jets. Tourists are one thing, but it seems a red flag was raised when Dugan moved to Qingdao in China, advertising his business as a comprehensive aviation consultancy company with a focus on the invasive and dynamic Chinese aviation business.

Last week, it was revealed at least 30 ex-British pilots are being investigated after they were hired for big money to train Chinese pilots. Australia is also checking if some of our former fighter pilots have been approached to work in China.

There's a blunt here that potentially leads to the ability of the People's Liberation Army Air Force to be more effective in shooting down and killing our pilots.

It's still unclear what charge Dugan is facing, but he's back in court in November. He may apply for bail ahead of an extradition hearing. As for his Top Gun days, for now, he's been grounded.
